Should R. Kelly Be Using 'Number One' As A Second Chance?
For all those who have been involved in heated debates over the past week as to whether Michael Vick deserves a second chance at his career, have we got a new case study for you! Seems old Robert Kelly, or R., is back in effect mode, readying the release of his newest disc, Untitled. Sure, some would say he should be laying low for the forseeable future, perhaps penning tracks for other artists. Thus, he'd still be making money, yet staying out of the spotlight. Or, (sigh) he could do what he's doing now: debuting a video for the sex-tinged single, "Number One." *blank stare* Trust me, I believe in second chances just like the next guy, but I also believe that there's a way to re-introduce yourself to a judgmental public. Is this it, R.? Is this what's hot in your mind's streets? The clip is below. Let us know what you think: Should "Number One" be his exhibit A for a second chance? Or should he have asked heaven for another hug and maybe written some inspirational music to serve as a theme for The T.O. Show? Discuss. Please.

3) i'm not saying its right but accept the fact r. kelly will probably always be nasty as hell. r. kelly is a freak and the sky is blue.
I love his talent.

I will be using this phrase as often as possible, pleaseandthankyou.
ill Mami | August 19, 2009 1:12 PM | PermalinkThis song sounds like a The Dream throwaway. And I'm about tired of R Kelly singing about sex. That was cool a few years back, but it's old now....just like he is. I wish he'd just fade to black and work as a producer/song writer.
Soulrific | August 19, 2009 9:19 AM | PermalinkI thought the video wasn't half bad...the last couple of albums of Kelly have been pretty mediocre. I'll give the music a chance, I always do. I prefer older 90s Kelly....but I still don't judge the man, just the music....I do agree with him being 41, it would be nice for his music to mature....
Reecie | August 18, 2009 10:05 PM | Permalink@Nate. Thanks that what I meant. But I'm sure MJ did both, after masterbating the sick boy, i'm sure he said a prayer or two.
Mutada/Mullah Atari | August 18, 2009 8:48 PM | PermalinkHmm...I think is going to be a guilty pleasure...next to the Wendy Williams show!
Kymyco | August 18, 2009 8:12 PM | Permalink@ Mutada: Did Michael Jackson really "pray" on sick children? Well, good for him. It's always good to see a man who is willing to take time out of his day, close his eyes, bow his head, and ask God for healing for the children.
Or maybe you meant that he "preyed" on sick children... well, that's a different story.
Nate | August 18, 2009 8:12 PM | Permalinksee, this is what i'm talking about when i say people need to get their grown on. r. kelly is 41 now. why has his music not matured? especially in light of the sex charges he faced. i expected a brooding album filled with contrite sentiments in the vein of marvin gaye. i've always thought r. kelly was marvin gaye's heir...but his music has skewed so young & vulgar over the years. i am very disappointed that he hasn't grown his music with his age. even his slowest, most sparse ballads have become explicit over the last few albums he released.
i'd love for kelly to return to steppers music & give us another happy people/you saved me type cd. i want him to get his grown on! leave hip hop alone & start giving us some adult r&b.
JNez | August 18, 2009 8:01 PM | PermalinkWhy the double standard? This website just did multiple tributes from multiple bloggers for a child molester. Michael Jackson. What was so different about these two cases? The truth is they both fucked kids. MJ, may have been worse as he prayed on sick children, gave them alcohol, and in both cases they were much younger.
Naw, I’m just kidding.
Kelly is a genius, but child molestation is an unforgivable sin. Period
I could see if she was some random 17 ½ year old chick he picked up at the corner store. That looked grown and he did not bother to check her ID. But even in the situation just described. As you get older it’s nearly impossible to mistake a CHILD for an adult. American movies and sitcoms, because of the 20 something actors used to play high school students. Condition peoples minds to see high school or teenagers as “adults” But in real life, high school kids are KIDS. And there is no mistaking that. The girl he molested looked like a child, and he groomed her for years and what he did was wrong.
As far as his music, he’s one of the best to ever do it, and will (with time), rank with the MJ’s, Prince’s, Marvin’s and maybe Stevie’s.
Mutada/Mullah Atari | August 18, 2009 6:35 PM | PermalinkReal Talk : This NIGGA's been gettin second chances since he married 15-year-old Aaliyah. He ain't right in the head. I know we are to forgive those no matter what, BUT there doesn't seem to be a change in this GROWN MAN's public life. I know I won't be comping any album, but I'm sure a ton of people - ladies mostly, how ironic - will dwnld, excuse me, purchase his album.

stoneyisland | August 18, 2009 5:07 PM | PermalinkR. Kelly is who is he is, an old ass man still living his high school dream, hanging in clubs, chasing young tail. As for a second chance, he gets none, it is a proven medical fact that sexual predators cannot stop on their own free will, the sicko is just wired differently. As a responsible parent there is no way in hell i'd have Robert Kelly around my teenage daughter. I'd help Mike Vick move in next door to me before I'd want to be neighbors with Robert Kelly.
