Spike Lee Remembers 'The Love, The Joy' That Michael Gave Us

How fitting is it to have Spike Lee, one of the foremost directors to tackle racial relations in this country, comment on Michael Jackson who was beloved by all people, yet had an interesting relationship with Blacks in this country and worldwide? Spike speaks of a scene in Do The Right Thing where an openly racist character says he dislikes Black folks, yet loves Michael Jackson because he "is more than Black." Spike also speaks on many of our issues that we had with Michael mostly being swept under the rug, since to many of us Michael was like family--the eccentric, wealthy, just strange cousin who showed up, showed out, and left everyone flabbergasted. Spike's interview with Katie Couric echoes much of how we all felt when Michael passed. Press play and see. [H/T: OKP]

well written, Nat! Exactly my sentimental.

Wow, I was very touched by the honesty and positivity that Spike Lee expressed about Michael Jackson, The King of Pop as a artist. What really stood out is how he said that nobody that is that talented is a 'normal' human being. He mentioned Elvis Presley, Bob Dylan, Mohammed Ailey etc. as examples of very talented people who were not 'normal' either. Yet because of people's main focus on his appearance and the false and cruel accusations of molestation that was dropped twice by the DA due to lack of evidence, many often forgot how internationally inspirational is was to people. Like Spike Lee said, what artist before MJ and after MJ would shake, faint and have convulsions at the sight of MJ? Maybe a view cases for some artist but nothing on the internationally level as MJ. MJ is know all over the world. He has fans all over the world. For 5 decades MJ was still very popular because every move he made was watched, picked piece by piece and shoved on to the general population by the often cruel and racist media in the U.S. I am also impressed of how Spike Lee did not take the bait that Katie Courbic was trying to feed him. He took this interview to a different level and direction than she had planned. I sat in awe and learned a lot more about MJ. I was born in 82' and have been of fan of MJ since 87'. I was hooked to MJ in 87' after watching his cartoon style music video for one of my favorite MJ songs, Leave Me Alone. I have always been a true fan of MJ and not onced did the media convince me that MJ was a child molester, bleached his skin, slept in a oxygen tank and all the crazy stories that the media tried so hard to convince people of all because of hate, revenage and for a paycheck. RIP Micheal Jackson. Sadly even after your death, you will not be Left Alone. I love you and may you know be able to finally rest in peace.
