Mos Def Goes A Capella In Japan, Likes Overalls
While bringing back super cargo-style overalls may be premature and/or unnecessary, if Mos Def likes them then good for him. Go ahead and rock that, friend. In this video of him performing "Casa Bey" a capella while walking through the streets of Osaka his preamble about how overalls make dressing easier definitely sets the tone for how relaxed he seems. No matter the context, his flow is effortless. It feels like there should be more hype about his album that drops this Tuesday, June 9th. Sounds like it will be quality either way. [H/T: OKP]

They sleepin' on Dante, man! There should be hella hype about this album. The brotha's flow remains awesome. I haven't heard a Hip Hop song that made me research the sample that was used in it in ages. However, when I saw the live performance of Casa Bey (via Youtube) last year, I was like, "I got to know where that's from!" It took a few weeks, but I eventually tracked down Banda Black Rio's "Casa Forte." I had never heard of the group, but now I'm a fan. Those horns & their arrangements are SICK! Madlib did very little in changing the sample; it's literally the same song with Mos spreading those lyrical blessings like butter! That's the genius of it all though. Sometime the music is so good, you have to let it speak for itself. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm definitely "ecstatic" about June 9th, baby!
P.S. This joint isn't on the Ecstatic, but it deserves a spin by any fan of Mos Def and/or good music. Mos & the Jazz Liberatorz worked some vibe-a-licious magic:
