Selected Dilla Productions To Officially Be Released As A Compilation
Although there are several mixtapes, tributes and homegrown collections of J Dilla's work floating around the Internet, there's been no official collection of his work with other artists. That is, until now. Enter Rapster Records who, on 3/31, are set to release Dillanthology I, the first in a series of compilations of Dilla's work as the man behind the boards. The tracklisting (which appears after the bounce) is mostly impressive with a decent cross-section of his sounds represented. With Dilla having such a dense discography, it's hard to nail down a "definitive" compilation. We won't bemoan what was omitted from the first volume, since there are presumably many more forthcoming.
- The Pharcyde: "Runnin'"
- Slum Village: "Fall in Love"
- Common: "The Light"
- Erykah Badu: "Didn't Cha Know"
- De La Soul: "Stakes Is High"
- Busta Rhymes: "Show Me What You Got"
- The Roots: "Dynamite"
- A.G. [ft. Aloe Blacc]: "Hip Hop Quotable"
- The Pharcyde: "Drop"
- Amp Fiddler: "I Believe in You"
- Steve Spacek: "Dollar"

Manamongst Hussein | February 25, 2009 9:00 AM | PermalinkThis is ABSOLUTE bullsh**. The proceeds of this project will go to the snakes and devils (lawyers and accountants) who control Jay's estate. No proceeds will go to his mother. F*** THAT.
DJ Eurok | February 24, 2009 3:03 PM | Permalinki do understand why Rapster would want to put this into the marketplace. Dilla doesn't have enough mainstream releases with his own name on them. however, i personally don't see the point of this release. i think that anyone who knows Dilla's work on a general level (or deeper still, modern black music) already owns at least eight of these tracks. again, i understand why this is coming out, but i know that i would plunk down $50-60 dollars RIGHT NOW for a 4-5 disc Dilla box set with a dope mixture of the rare and mainstream stuff. does Dilla not deserve that?
