Mos Def Is Better Off Staying 'Quiet' With This New Track
I hold the artists I call my favorites to a higher standard. Pardon me, but once an artist has done something deemed to be worthy of ad nauseum-repeating on my iPod, I expect much more from them. See Sense, Common and West, Kanye. This being said, I have tried to stay away from the nagging sense that my beloved Mos Def's forthcoming album, The Ecstatic, will be a sonic flop based on the tracks I have heard. Trust me when I say that I want--in fact need--these songs to lift me to new heights as his previous two albums have. Alas, this is not the case. While "Quiet Dog" has a great audio sample of Fela Kuti in the beginning, the rest of the song is woefully repetitive. Sorry, Dante. Maybe next time.

I kinda like it too...it sounds more Will Smith than Mos Def, though. It kind of reminds me of "Switch".

DJStylus | January 15, 2009 12:39 AM | PermalinkI disagree... I'm feeling this joint here... it's got energy. I'd like to hear a RMX featuring Andre 3000.

I have to disagree with you. I like it.
Fred | January 14, 2009 4:29 PM | PermalinkI don't know. I kinda like it. I do understand the issue of it sounding a little repetitive, but I really like the emotion and energy behind the song. It's got a strong vibe to it, overall, that I can forgive some of its flaws.
Kayode Kendall | January 14, 2009 4:16 PM | PermalinkAfter the debacle that was called his last album AND this first track from his new joint. I am officially forced to stop buying this cats music, Mos has no one to blame but himself and artist wonder why people download instead of purchasing their music legally. Mos Def has basically thrown his rap career in the toilet.
