What Album Would You Pen A Tome About?

33_1:3-atcq.jpgAudiophiles and serious writers, you have been warned. From now until midnight December 31st, publishing house Continuum will be accepting proposals from anyone who has an interest in writing a book about an album that has touched you in the way that only music can. Speaking for the extended SoulBounce family, we are pretty jazzed about this opportunity. So far, the 33 1/3 series contains very few books written about Soul albums. True, Stevie Wonder's Songs In The Key of Life, Prince's Sign "☮" the Times and A Tribe Called Quest's People's Instinctive Travels & The Paths of Rhythm have already been explored by previous authors, but there currently exists a dearth of Soul music in all of its forms that you.,.yes, you...could help to fill. So readers, which full-length albums would you like to see explored in book form? A love letter to an album in lengthy liner note glory, if you will. Let us know in the comments. [33 1/3 via IDLTR

Peace Beyond Passion and The World Has Made Me The Man Of My Dreams by Meshell NdegeOcello. Peace connected with me in such a visceral, ethereal way that I felt like she swam through my soul to make the album. And World is just astounding, true forward-thinking Black music for the next century, let alone 2008 (musically, lyrically, and emotionally).

Madame Zenobia .... You aint never lied!! That album is a hidden CLASSIC. DId you ever hear his independent CD "Wild Card"?

For me it would be "Spirit" by Earth Wind and Fire and "The Mis-Education of Lauryn Hill".

Sade's Love Deluxe

Maxwell's Embrya

Terence Trent D'Arby's Vibrator (don't ask...it's a good album though, very visual, very prose-like)

Miles Marshall Lewis penned a book in this series on Sly Stone's There's A Riot Goin' On:

"Touch" by The Supremes, "Seal" by Seal, or "Control" by Janet Jackson.-QH

This is an awesome concept. Just...wow.

For me, it would be Lalah Hathaway's "Outrun The Sky". Very near and dear to my heart.

LoL @ suga's comment.

Marvin's What's Going On....sacred as Aretha's Amazing Grace and the musical equivalent of The Autobiography of Malcolm X.

"Who Is Jill Scott?" changed my life completely.
If it werent for that album, i'd probably be bent over somewhere in a Lil Wayne video lol

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. I could contribute volumes as to how it affected my tastes and newly-found thirst for that thing that made me turn off my radio upon realizing it had nothing for me.

This album opened my eyes/*ears* and made me listen to music instead of just hearing it in the background.

Yes, Mama's Gun. That album is an emotional adventure told in mtaphors of metaphors. Brillance on wax. And like an Orange Moon , "How good it is," indeed....

off the top of my head..Mama's gun.
