Solange Loves Her Some 'T.O.N.Y.'
It seems as though the throwback '60s Motown era has not only infiltrated some of today's music but the look of the music as well. Deciding to shoot the video in black and white is not really avant garde, nor is creating the look of black and white vintage film. When you combine these two looks together along with Solange's new single "TO.N.Y" a/k/a "The Other Night Y???", however, the look is kind of fresh. Featuring Ms. Hadley Street Dreams sashaying along the brownstone-lined streets of New York City and sauntering extra hard in her jewels and plush fur, I can't help but say that this video really does a nice job of promoting some suspense towards the end with the surprise that Solange is really in love with her little boy. After hearing this track, this may provide the impetus for me to finally check out her album. Good job, Solange. Be sure to peep the Cee-Lo cameo midway through the video as well.

y'all need to buy this woman's cd. i was afraid at first; "i decided" is a gem, but i thought that's where it would end. truth is, there are only 2, 3 tracks that i skip, and those aren't even bad--you just have to be in the mood for them. i LOVE the album. there. i've said it. i was pleasently surprised.
sad, though. the album's not going to catch on. even if beyonce didn't put out another album till the NEXT war, this album would get slept on. such a shame.

Nana | November 21, 2008 11:15 AM | PermalinkDON'T SLEEP ON SOLANGE. I DID AT FIRST BUT SHE'S REALLY BEING FEARLESS AND CREATING ANOTHER KNOWLES SOUND. CEE-LO IN THE VIDEO IS REFLECTIVE OF THE FACT THAT HE WROTE THE SONG... AND I LIKE HOW EVERYTHIME SHE SEES HER BAND, IT'S LIKE SHE'S FACING THE MUSIC OF PAYING FOR THE MISTAKE SHE MADE... HOT ISH.
BABYBOY | November 20, 2008 11:17 PM | PermalinkRandom Cee-Lo sighting. WTF?

DLS77 | November 20, 2008 3:06 PM | PermalinkOh! She shot this in Harlem. Didn't hear hide nor hair of her doing it unless it was around the same time Bey shot her boy video out here.
Bell | November 20, 2008 3:04 PM | PermalinkI've been waiting for this video cause T.O.N.Y's one of my favorite tracks from her album.
I love the vid's concept and the fact that it's modern while the song has a throwback feel!
Bree | November 20, 2008 2:59 PM | PermalinkI'm very surprised... I wasn't expecting to like the video much, but I really do. Very nice concept. Love the song. Love the album... hope this cut brings the LP back to the forefront.
Nate | November 20, 2008 2:43 PM | PermalinkThis is such an amazing cut and amazing LP. It is a shame that her sister will get the glory. But, hey good music can't be kept down.-QH
