'Will I Ever' Like Lyfe Jennings As I Should?
The simple answer to that question is Yes! But only if he promises to feature model/show host/object of Harlem's affection Toccara Jones in all of his videos going forward. Otherwise, the difficult answer is, I'm really not sure. I mean, don't get me wrong, Lyfe Jennings is a cool dude. And I should like him. He's on his R&B grind, churning out solid material album after album. His music is topical and consistent. The problem is, to me it's consistently meh. It's like if you've heard one Lyfe song, you've heard them all. Sigh. A video for his current single, "Will I Ever," from the album Lyfe Change, hit the nets this week, and again, neither the song nor video blew me away. Check the clip below and let us know if you like it. Me? I'll be sitting back trying to figure out why, for the Lyfe of me, I can't get on his bandwagon. Unless, of course, Toccara's saving me a seat.

I can understand, feeling like Lyfe's music sounds the same, but you have to give it to him, in regards to his voice. He has an authentic voice that has soul all over it.

I saw him perform an acoustic set some years ago - just him and the guitar and that was Lyfe at his best. When I saw him perform recently with the band, I was mostly underwhelmed.

But his lyrics eventually won me over. Album after album he's gotten more vocally dynamic as an artist. This time with this song, his vocals are in their best possible condition. He displays a range on this song in a way that had always eluded him. Vulnerable and introspective in a time when so many male artists are obvious and offensive, Lyfe comes str8 no chaser on this tune. Will I Ever is one of Lyfe's best cuts hands down. Get into it!

cutenshort79 | October 7, 2008 8:15 PM | PermalinkThe video is i-right. It's kinda like Avant's video -- Great visuals, nice girls, nice song, but bullsh*t plot line.
I don't think a woman would have sat down and chat with a dude who accidently had her cell phone. Yeah, it's all innocent and what not. But on the real, she would have been like, "Nigga, give me my damn phone back. And you better have not made any calls on it. I've already expired my free minutes."
Ha!
It's a nice video for a great R&B singer. Lyfe is a blue-collar, hard-working, stay-on-his-grind music artist. You gotta give him his props.
Word life.
