'It's A Man's Man's Man's World' For Seal

Seal is going full throttle in preparation for the November 11th release of his new CD, Soul. Yesterday we heard his take on Sam Cooke's "A Change Is Gonna Come" and today we get to hear (and see) his spin on James Brown's "It's A Man's Man's Man's World" with the online premiere of the video. The clip features Seal suited up and singing in a room with a small orchestra. Not the most exciting concept, but it was the musicians that really caught my attention because I love seeing people of color playing instruments. As far as the song is concerned, let me put it this way... It was very telling--and amusing--for me was that Yahoo! Music classified the video in the following categories: Adult Alternative, Smooth Jazz and Soft Pop. Yup, no "Soul" in sight. What's that tell you?

Soul available on 11/11 [Amazon]

This is what they will label as post soul music. That means white people have totally embraced the parts of their choosing and the parts they feel they don't have themselves. So be on the look out for the term "post race" over the next few months. That's right they tread dangerously close to embracing the parts of black folks (Obama) they feel they cannot achieve themselves.

Seal Nailed This! His vocal are of the chain. James Brown would be Proud.I Love this Man!

Not the biggest Seal fan, but this is not bad to me.

unlike everyone else I am LOVING his version....and trust me Seal is so irrelevant to me....and I hate when people try to cover the classics but he delivered it sounded like it was wrote for him....and now i have him on repeat....good job

This my good peoples is a travesty. Seal hasnt put out a decent album since his first one damn near 20 years ago, whe he was rocking dreads. Travesty with a capital T. Thank God he has a rich super model for a wife to fall back on:)

Surprisingly, I didn't hate it.

I was not at all feeling the his attempt at 'A Change Gone Come' at all but then again, most singers can't hit that song with the right amount of gravitas. It seems like most folks think of the song as a series of vocal acrobatics, not a song with a point-of-view and something to say. There are a lot of other wack versions of Sam Cooke's signature tune floating around out there. Trust me - it ain't pretty! Seal is NOT the bad guy here. But as a vocalist myself, I gotta say - I'm diggin' his take of this James Brown classic. It's funny 'cuz he sings it like JB without sounding like him! Like Mr Brown, Mr Samuel lets it ALL hang out! Excelsior!!! I'm diggin' it throughly and I believe I'll listen to it a few more times.
