Charlie Wilson Channels His Old Self in New Song
We already ripped Charlie Wilson a new one earlier in the week for putting the same old tired shtick on wax once again with the song "Need A Wife." However, with this new track "Thinking of You" Charlie Wilson comes correct. Instead of trying to get some middle-aged love in this club, Charlie returns a song that sounds like it could have been recorded during the good old Gap Band days. Though not as funktacular as "Early in the Morning" or "You Dropped the Bomb on Me," this is a way better look than the other drivel that's leaked recently. This is Charlie at his best, grabbing hold of a song and wrestling it to the ground. Kudos to the Underdogs who brought out the funk in Chowlee with their tight production. Now if this is coupled with an equally funky '80s throwback music video, then I will be a happy woman.

Great song, a blast from the past, the real electro funk. Right on Charlie
scorpiodragon | October 9, 2008 2:38 PM | PermalinkPlease Charlie, scrap this album, call up Babyface, take your time and make a real grown up album. Young people will not buy this, and grown folks that love you are already disappointed with what's been leaked so far.
TT | September 26, 2008 12:42 PM | PermalinkYall are waaaay too critcal...he definitely still has in the power synth club bangers though I would think he would need this done by a production crew like Stargate. To get some Euro play and Euro touring dollars. Yall are just musical snobs here! Let this man live and recoop some of that blown crack money.
manamongst | August 12, 2008 4:33 PM | PermalinkDamn the dude only beat addiction TO CRACK and lord knows what else? What kind of music would make you happy ? Should he keep retreading the ground he's already covered ? Or maybe keep singing rap hooks for snoop and turned down backround vocals to fill out Pharells thin voice >? I mean really he's only a funk legend who's VOICE STILL SOUNDS AS GOOD IN 2008 AS IT DID IN 1986..Come on people
Mutada al sader the king | August 11, 2008 11:49 AM | PermalinkUmmm, no, for the second time.
Can someone please explain to me what's so wrong with grown azz men actually singing like grown azz men? Going to pull out my Will Downing and meditate now...

Gee | August 10, 2008 3:42 PM | PermalinkI just can't get into this one. It's not on the same level as his time w/The Gap Band. I'm just turned off by how he's carrying himself nowadays.
sdg1844 | August 9, 2008 5:56 PM | PermalinkNot bad has all the stuff we love about Charlie's voice incorporated in the song.
soulzkidd | August 9, 2008 1:13 PM | PermalinkSorry but this aint that different a song, the lyrics are about the same. As long as Charlie is rocking baseball hats and bling-bling:) and hanging in clubs he does not get a pass. Now I have to pull one of my old gap band cd's to get this bad taste outta my mouth:) Outstanding? I think not.
stoneyisland | August 9, 2008 1:11 AM | PermalinkNow, see thats what I'm talkin' 'bout. He's finally acting his age...even though the lyrics remind me of the old guy at the club trying to get fresh with me. lol
I hope he sticks to this sound. I like it. "You Dropped the Bomb on Me" used to be my jam when I was a kid.
