Sh*t or Shinola?

(Assuming You Care) A Non-Explanation of the 'Flashing Lights' Video

killing-kanye.jpgLooks like MTV put a mic or a telephone in front of Rita G., the buxom star of Kanye West's "Flashing Lights" video. She basically says (without saying much of anything) that Kanye is so deep and genius that you have to be an all-supreme being in order to understand the video:

"This video will go over a lot of people's heads--and it's supposed to. I think it's great that it does. Because Kanye is just on another level; he's ahead of his time, in a sense. So all the third-graders who come home from school and want to watch videos and snap their fingers and all that, they're probably gonna think, 'That video is wack, but that chick got a fat a--.' And that's fine. But people in higher positions, they're gonna see something different. They're gonna get it, people who are thinkers."

But what about the people that don't want to "get it"? What about those of us that watched the video one time, tilted our heads to the side and said "Hmm, no Dwele" and kept it moving? We're sure there's a linear storyline and some social commentary buried in there somewhere, but why Kanye is being bludgeoned to death with a shovel on camera is the least of our concerns. There's an election going on! (Unless, of course, this video is about the election?)

Thank you ladies and gents for replying. Well it's obvious that both Dwele and Bilal have made many many hooks for both Common and Talib Kweli but maybe they don't want to be in the videos as well. I believe there are various reasons...overall there are a lot of mc's and singers who don't get the love they deserve..ie: Talib Kweli. Dude has been getting played over and over and over again!

@Novamatic

*grins*
I was sheltered...kinda.
But damn, I'm sayin...

Also, Dwele will get his moment. I can feel it. It would make no sense at all for him to get slept on for too much longer, though I have no idea why the folks at Good Music aren't sharing the video spotlight.

Yeah.. Dwele sang the hook to Common's "The People". No video love there either.

Is there a conspiracy? I care about that much more than Kanye's never-ending attempts to "be deep" and "go over my head".
Yes, Kanye, you're a stylish genius. Next?

@ Velvet: Dwele ain't been getting no video love! lol! I'm starting to forget what dude looks like.

What's the big deal with Dwele?

Well I thought the video went with the subject matter. In the song he's telling a story about him getting caught cheating. He never thought that she would take it as far as to commit murder. What else is there to understand? I'm one of the ones that kept it moving when I didn't see Dwele.

I don't understand the big deal.

He needed a video... he needed some heat... he put some T n A in his video. And it's doing exactly what he (or his record company) wants it to do.

Funny. I did that exact thing. Watched it and was thinking "when's Dwele gonna pop up? Is he in the car?"

@Purple: I was a 3rd grader once, and that's all I'mma say. LOL!

Still trying to get the past this statement:

'So all the third-graders who come home from school and want to watch videos and snap their fingers and all that, they're probably gonna think, 'That video is wack, but that chick got a fat a--.'

How is this person imagining thoughts like "... but that chic got a fat a--" being part of the normal pattern for a third grader?

This is why we don't have cable in our house.

I don't know if I got the video or not. I thought the video was very simple. Be careful what ask for, cuz you just might get it. In my mind the guy in the trunk wanted a hot girl, but in the end she wound up being crazy and killing him. But I might be reading too much into it.
