Sevyn Streeter has been prepping her next album Drunken Wordz x Sober Thoughtz for a hot minute now. A follow-up to her slept-on debut Girl Disrupted, the now independent artist got us open with the tracks “HMU” and “Kissez.” Those songs came and went last year, but Sevyn dropped the single “Guilty” featuring Chris Brown and A$AP Ferg to considerable buzz earlier this year. Now our girl is keeping the momentum going with some eye candy and fancy footwork in the music video for “Guilty.”
On the song, Sevyn and company feel guilty for stepping outside of their relationships but can’t resist the pleasure they receive. If the funky groove sounds familiar, you might recognize the sample of James Brown’s “The Payback” that Total utilized in their debut hit “Can’t You See.” Sevyn even pays a little homage to Total's jam at the end of the track by singing a bit of the chorus.
Under Young Chang’s lens, Sevyn and a dozen of her girlfriends indulge in the company of a few bearded and buff Black men in a post-pandemic fantasy come to life packed with lots of dancing. Dressed in a red dress with an extra-long tail, Sevyn presents the sexy suitors to her girls who are all holding golden tickets before she leads them through the halls of a lavish mansion. In one room there's a group dance scene that pays homage to Aaliyah, with Sevyn rocking a look similar to what Baby Girl wore in the “If Your Girl Only Knew” video. In another room, Sevyn and her male dance partner are alone in a room surrounded by candles, but they are the ones burning up the screen with their dirty dancing. We next see a few of the ladies and gents lounging and flirting by the pool before one last group dynamic dance scene. Chris Brown and A$AP Ferg are absent from the visual, but they are hardly missed thanks to all the male models and Sevyn herself who looks especially ravishing.
“Guilty” is the official lead single from Sevyn’s highly anticipated sophomore album Drunken Wordz x Sober Thoughtz, slated to drop later this summer.
