D-Nice & Kiana Ledé Give Us A Mellow Summer Jam With 'Rather Be'

D-Nice is about to have a very busy summer. He's lined up impressive dates for star-studded live editions of Club Quarantine on both coasts and he's preparing to release his first new project in decades. We got a taste of what's on the horizon with banger "No Plans For Love" and its Snoop Dogg-featuring remix. Now the in-demand multi-hyphenate is giving us another listen with the Kiana Ledé-featuring "Rather Be."

Whereas "No Plans For Love" was meant to make us move, "Rather Be" is more of a vibe. You can tell from the smoothed out production that greets you when you press play. The kick drum beats like a heartbeat as snares tick away the time, a rhythm that is further brought to life by wavy synth chords on the verse and the welcome addition of strings on the chorus. Then, of course, there's Kiana and her breathy delivery. She plays a woman in love who has to make a decision on where her heart wants to go. While she's being pulled in one direction, it seems her heart wants something else. "If I wanted / It's hard to tell the truth of where I'd rather be," she sings on the chorus. "If I wanted / You know I'd never stay because I'd rather be gone." We're sure her confusion might be frustrating for her partner. But, quite frankly, she makes it sound very nice.

D-Nice and Kiana Ledé are set to perform "Rather Be" this coming week on June 24th for the Good Morning America audience. We recommend that you set your DVRs and tune in. If you need some time to learn the words you'll be singing along to on Thursday morning, then give their collaboration a spin below.
