Black Coffee & Maxine Ashley Give Us What We Want With 'You Need Me'

Black Coffee has been bringing it in the lead-up to his upcoming album Subconsciously, which is set for a February 5th release. So far, we've been blessed with singles featuring UsherSabrina ClaudioCeleste and Pharrell and Jozzy. The South African producer isn't done thrilling us just yet, though, as he brings yet another taste of the set with "You Need Me."

The track, which features vocals from Maxine Ashley and additional production from fellow South African dance music producer Sun-El Musician, travels in the same vein we've come to know Black Coffee for. It starts with a striking kick drum that is soon joined by Maxine Ashley's reverbed vocal and delicate piano. The languid feel is soon changed to a downtempo house vibe as more percussion and vocal samples are layered into the mix, switching up the vibe considerably while still taking into account the emotional tone of Maxine's vocal. "It's never enough when you say you'll do better / You can't save my life / I know," she sings. "Before I get away / Know that I won't slow down / You and I / Until we make it." Later, her pitched down voice sheds the poetic for the blunt as she sings, "Look inside / You need me."

With a stacked lineup of collaborators and a solid collection of tracks, it looks like Subconsciously will be yet another must-listen release from Black Coffee. Listen to "You Need Me" when you press play.
