India Shawn Is Looking For Some 'CALI LOVE' But Doesn't Want Things To Get 'TOO DEEP' With 6LACK

India Shawn has made a name for herself in the industry as a songwriter for artists like Diddy, Keri Hillson, Monica and many others. That's not to mention that she's also sung background vocals for Kanye West as part of his Sunday Service at Coachella and toured with Anderson .Paak. In addition to her writing and vocal work with the aforementioned artists, she also collaborated with James Fauntleroy on Outer Limits, which was one of our favorite EPs of 2015. All of her hard work has paid off, and India Shawn has signed with Epic Records and plans to release a new EP on the label. To get us ready, she has unveiled a pair of new singles, “CALI LOVE” and “NOT TOO DEEP” featuring 6LACK.

L.A., L.A. big city of dreams, but can you find true love in the City of Angels? That’s the question on Shawn’s mind. While the state is full of opportunity and scenic views, matters of the heart seem out of reach. Produced by D’Mile, Shawn’s vocals ride a hypnotic groove of snare drums, bass guitar and harmonies as she "searches for water where it never rains." In addition to the new song, Shawn has also shared a short visual for “CALI LOVE,” where the singer is wearing a cannabis crown of pre-rolls covered in Swarovski crystals and draped in gems against a garden backdrop of green shrubs and red roses. It’s short, simple, to the point and just as mesmerizing as the singer and her vocals.

On “NOT TOO DEEP,” India is caught up in the rapture of new love. And when love is new and you have all these wonderful feelings, some realistic and some not, you want to keep that going as long as you can. “In your arms, evergreen / I want to fall, but not too deep,” she coos over sparse percussion and acoustic guitar. The music switches up into a dreamy haze on 6LACK’s verse as he tries to reassure her that she shouldn’t fear. “I know you scared to check my chart / You gon’ find something out / I ain’t got a problem telling you what I’m about,” he poetically raps. From there, the two harmonize in unison until the song ends.

India Shawn shared a few insights into the inspiration behind the pair of tracks, stating, “As a SoCal native, I couldn’t see myself calling anywhere else home; I just haven’t had great luck dating here. In ‘CALI LOVE,’ I’m asking, ‘Where do you find a true love in L.A.?’ When I wrote ‘NOT TOO DEEP,’ my head and heart were in the admiration, appreciation, and simplicity of newfound love. It reminds of one of my favorite Osho quotes, ‘If you love a flower, don’t pick it up. If you pick it up, it dies, and it ceases to be what you love. So, if you love a flower, let it be’.”

We're definitely feeling the love from India Shawn and have fallen for her even deeper with these two singles. There’s no release date for her upcoming project yet, only the note that it's "coming soon." For us, that's not soon enough.
