Festival season is only a few short months away. That means all of your faves are signing on to be part of spectacular once-in-a-lifetime lineups sure to give you everything you need. While fanning out over the amazing lineup for this year’s ESSENCE Festival, you might have missed the announcement of performers for the 2020 edition of the Roots Picnic. The event thrown annually by Philadelphia’s own The Roots will be held on May 30th in Philadelphia at The Mann at Fairmount Park and promises to be as epic as ever with a lineup of heavy hitters.
Headlining is Philly native son Meek Mill, who will be joined by rap contemporaries DaBaby and Buddy as well. The lineup is particularly R&B heavy, though. Snoh Aalegra, Summer Walker, Thundercat, SiR, Baby Rose and Phony Ppl all made the cut. In addition, The Roots will be performing a special soul set featuring Brandy, Musiq Soulchild and SWV. But wait, there’s even more! The ever-soulful Meshell Ndegeocello will also be on hand for a special set in which she reimagines the work of the one and only Prince.
As if all that weren’t enough, the festival will also include live editions of The Read, Questlove Supreme, CRWN and another round of Black Thought and J.Period‘s live mixtape that you won’t want to miss. You can peep the festival’s full lineup in the flyer below. Tickets for the Roots Picnic, which start at $69.50, go on sale via Ticketmaster on February 14th at 12 p.m. ET.
