Michael Kiwanuka Finds 'Solid Ground' At 'COLORS'

We're just over a day away from the release of Michael Kiwanuka's third studio album Kiwanuka. The set already seems to be one that will find the singer-songwriter visiting the sounds of classic soul with singles like "You Ain't The Problem" and "Hero." The British artist is giving us one more listen from the soon-to-be-released set by premiering his latest single, "Solid Ground," with a moving performance of the track for the folks at COLORS Studios.

Michael sits in for the set with just his vintage Rhodes as he performs the moving track against a dark grey backdrop. Given the song's quiet, contemplative nature, it's an apt choice to convey the song's mood. The song finds him mulling over life with poetic and heartfelt lyrics. "How does it feel when it's quiet and calm? / And will I be denied? / How will it feel when it's time to move on? / Mother says kneel and pray," he sings on the track's first verse. "When it gets hard, I will roll those sleeves / Life can be so unkind / I will be found on the edge of the world / Where there'll be no one around." That lament is one that many the world over have probably found themselves wondering when times get hard. However, though the song's message does seem a little fatalistic, the way Michael sings it imbues it with a sort of hope that a light will soon find its way through the darkness.

So far, Kiwanuka sounds like it will be quite the sonic journey. We'll discover where else the album will be taking us when Michael Kiwanuka's latest is released on November 1st. Be sure to pre-order the project to make sure you're in the number.
