Choklate Returns With Self-Discovery Anthem 'Believe Me'

Though it’s been a minute since we’ve heard from singer/songwriter Choklate, that doesn’t mean she hasn’t been working. Judging by her latest single “Believe Me,” the work she’s been engaged in has been more internal. The track serves as a riveting and rallying cry for self-discovery and captures the feeling of invincibility one experiences once they uncover their true power and purpose. In an assured and adamant tone she sings, “You don’t believe me / You won’t believe me / But you gon believe me / When you see me up there.” If this is the kind of defiant brilliance that results from taking time to refocus and reflect, perhaps more artists should call for a time-out.

The accompanying, Warlord-directed visual beautifully captures the type of healing isolation often required when one seeks to rediscover themselves. Set against an Asian-Pacific backdrop, Choklate remains the focal point amongst the serene, seaside landscape. She says, “We tried to capture the atmosphere of the song, which is simply the act of conquering the self. Discarding fear and taking the steps one inevitably has to in order to truly become the person, artist, human that they are destined to become.”
