Ne-Yo, Bebe Rexha & Stefflon Don Invite You to Pull Up And 'Push Back'

Singer/songwriter and toe-tapper Ne-Yo is known for both his smooth R&B and uptempo EDM club hits. He can sweep a pretty young thing off her feet literally and figuratively. In his video for “Push Back,” featuring Bebe Rexha and Stefflon Don, he attempts to achieve both.

"Push Back" is a tropical dance track with an Afro-Caribbean edge. It seems like Ne-Yo has peeped a cutie in the dancehall and wants to get behind to wind and grind up on her. Meanwhile, up-and-coming pop diva Rexha takes control of the second verse, inviting Ne-Yo to pull up to her bumper. Dancehall rapper Stefflon Don comes through with an aggressive verse and adlibs, adding her island flavor to the mix.

With all the tropical vibes found on the track, you’d expect the video to take place in the islands or maybe the Little Haiti neighborhood of Miami. However, director James Larese takes a more artistic approach. Taking place in an art studio, the video features a number of colorful murals set against a white background. The video also makes use of various filter effects. This helps the performers and dancers pop out from their surroundings. And, for a song that’s about winding your hips, that’s important. The video features a bevy of heavy bottom beauties pushing it back on Ne-Yo and the male dancers in the video. Guest stars Bebe and Steff get their own solo spots in the clip, giving us a little wind with much attitude. The artistic direction is reminiscent of Rihanna’s “Rude Boy” video. However, the muted color palette and multiple dancers give the clip its own vibe.

“Push Back” is the latest video from Ne-Yo’s upcoming album Good Man, due for release on June 8th. In addition to Rexha and Done, the set features collaborations with Ty Dolla $ign, 2 Chainz, Romeo Santos and others. A concept album, the project will explore what it takes to a be a “good man.” It will be interesting to hear what Mr. Shaffer Smith has to say and sing. Until then, hit play on the video and let us know if it makes you book a trip to the islands.
