Our favorite EDM-meets-trap dancehall queen DΔWN is back with a new song and, more importantly, a new album. The last album in her Heart Trilogy, which features Golden Heart (2013) and Blackheart (2015), REDEMPTION (alternately named Redemption Heart: The Red Era) will be released to the masses on November 18th. The album has been a long time in the making. We got the first inklings of the upcoming project last year when she released the former first single, “Dance,” with a promised January release date. While that date has passed us by, DΔWN stayed busy throughout the year, dropping singles, EPs and other breadcrumbs along the way, including gems such as “Not Above That” and “Wake Up," not to mention her haunting take on Adele’s “Hello.”
REDEMPTION finds the singer expressing her views on politics, gay rights, crime, sexual discovery, what it means to be Black and what it means to be a woman. DΔWN will be accompanied on this musical journey by fellow New Orleans-natives PJ Morton and Trombone Shorty, who make guest appearances on the album. And for those of us who embrace technology but still like purchasing physical copies of music instead of just downloading it, DΔWN has a treat for you. Instead of the usual compact disc, DΔWN’s REDEMPTION is being sold on her website as a pyramid-shaped USB necklace, along with photos, lyrics and other content.
In anticipation of the upcoming project, DΔWN has also shared her first single, “Renegades,” a club-ready dance record that features the former Diddy-Dirty Money member’s electro-trap sound. Of the track, the artist said, “['Renegades'] speaks of the rebels. We are the glitter of this community and I kind of wanted to make an anthem where it felt like there was an overtake happening.” Whether you’re a rebel, or just a rebel at heart, the song will definitely get your mojo working overtime.
