Christmas may be 25 days away, but early presents will never be turned down. Our girl Avery*Sunshine is known for giving us her everything when she gets on stage. Now that generosity is being wrapped up in holiday finery for all fans to enjoy. With her latest single, "Never Knew Christmas," the Atlanta-based artist is gifting us with some newness to spruce up our holiday playlist.

Two years in the making, the track is the realization of a dream deferred. The singer revealed, "While I certainly appreciate and have an undying love for the classics, I have always wanted to create a song that reflected my personal Christmas experience." Using an arrangement that was created two years ago, she and music partner Dana Johnson were inspired while having breakfast at IHOP in early October. The syrup wasn't the only thing flowing that morning as the lyrics poured out of them. Avery went on to premiere the song just two weeks later during a sold-out concert at The Birchmere in Northern Virginia. The ballad was so well-received, she had no choice but to record it and share it with the masses.

The intro blends mellow keys, harp flourishes and wafting strings to create a romantic atmosphere for this holiday serenade. Mining her lower register, Ms. Sunshine infuses her warm vocals with an air of sensuality. But it's the smoky edge to her voice, reminiscent of Gladys Knight, that permeates the soul and lends authenticity to lyrics like, "Winter never felt so warm / Trees never smelled so good / Lights never shone so bright / Love never felt this right."
