CeeLo Green’s life ain't been no crystal stair. It has been filled with triumphs, challenges, depression, allegations, questionable tweets, career setbacks and bad blood. However, none of this has stopped the very human rapper/singer from rising from the ashes time and time again to excite and delight the hearts and minds of fans. His latest single, “Music To My Soul,” is an ode to his indomitable spirit and his Dungeon Family cohorts. Written by an “admirer,” the song plants Easter eggs of CeeLo’s past and present to deliver a universal message of perseverance and a brighter tomorrow. The concept for the song's music video is pretty clever, too. What better way to talk about finding light even in darkness than a New Orleans style funeral?

After giving us a some really inventive video treatments for the singles “Robin Williams” and “Sign of the Times,” Green’s latest clip is more straightforward video treatment. However, that doesn’t mean it is any less impressive or thoughtful in context. The visual features many of the distinct hallmarks of a New Orleans celebration of life, as you see the sad funeral goers proceed through the cemetery with their loved one before giving up the ghost and celebrating life and creation. While death is readily apparent, hope is represented in the clip not only by the singing, dancing and carrying on, but also by a young boy dressed in white who shows us that life will go on.

“Music To My Soul,” is the third single from CeeLo’s fifth album, Heart Blanche. While “Music To My Soul” might be a little too cheesy and ready for pop radio for some, it doesn’t make the song any less inspiring or true. And we dare you not to smile after watching this inspiring clip.
