The magnificent MC Lyte recently blessed us with a positive new track, “Dear John,” featuring Common and 10Beats. The song is an important and timely open letter filled with wisdom and inspiration to young Black men. It also serves as the official anthem for Lyte’s scholarship initiative, #EducateOURMEN, which will award dozens of university scholarships to deserving young men who will enroll at HBCUs.
Now Lyte has premiered a music video for “Dear John” that serves as an empowering visual of Black men and boys. Although MC Lyte, Common and 10Beats do not make any appearances, the message of Black male achievement is loud and clear. Throughout the video, there are endearing images of Black fathers with their children as well as an homage to important Black male leaders, advocates and artists.
“Dear John” is the first single from MC Lyte’s upcoming new album, slated to be released in early 2015. We can’t wait to hear what’s next in store from the hip-hop veteran. Until then, watch the uplifting video right here.
