After gracing us with the luscious goodness of his single, “Street Lights,” featuring Gwen Bunn, Jordan Rakei blesses our ears once more with the release of his sophomore EP, Groove Curse. The EP is chock full of soulful goodness that showcases how the Aussie is quickly coming into his own after first landing on our radar last year.
With only five tracks on the EP, Groove Curse is a tease that left me wanting for more from this multi-talented vocalist, instrumentalist and producer. While all of the songs are smoothed-out excellent, an early standout is “Alright.” The sensual number drips with a warmness that that is reminiscent of early D’Angelo without hampering the discovery of Rakei’s own personal style. Clearly wise and soulful beyond his years, Rakei proves that he’s on that path to greatness with his vocals and laid-back production that only reiterates that we need more music from this young man like, yesterday.
