Is Adrian Marcel Who You've Been 'Waiting' For?

Many up-and-coming artists can only dream of having an established industry veteran take an interest in their work. Luckily for 22-year-old Oakland native Adrian Marcel, his dream is a reality. Claiming R&B icon Raphael Saadiq as his mentor, Adrian is set to make major moves with his upcoming 7 Days of Weak mixtape and it's lead single, "Waiting." Slightly reminiscent of Drake's "Marvin's Room" in theme, "Waiting" finds Adrian drunk and thinking about his ex. But what distinguishes this track from Drake's (other than the fact that Adrian doesn't need the help of Auto-Tune in order to sing), is that "Waiting" feels more like a sincere plea instead of just some random drunk dial from a jerky ex-boyfriend. Perhaps because he does a better job at making the listener feel the pain of a jilted ex-lover who, though there are plenty of fish in the sea, can't seem to shake the one walked away. And the sincerity seems to be paying off, as "Waiting" is making strong gains on the urban radio charts. When 7 Days of Weak drops on April 24th, you can expect production from some heavyweights, including Saadiq and J.U.S.T.I.C.E. League. But you don't have to wait until then to get your first Adrian fix. "Waiting" awaits you when you press play below.
