It seems like every young star TV/movie star nowadays is also trying to get into the music business. The Wire and 90210 star Tristan Wilds certainly wasn't one that I expected to follow this path, but after hearing his cover of Frank Ocean's
"Thinking About You," I'm willing to give his future material a listen or two. His singing is fairly decent, I must admit. Not necessarily a voice that will blow you away, but definitely one that could easily compete in a league with the likes of Lloyd, Chris Brown, and Trey Songz. What really swayed me, though, was the decision to recreate the original's music landscape using only vocals. It definitely added a level to the cover that lifts it from a flat retread to something that deserves attention. Tristan, who has been reportedly working with songwriter Rico Love and producers Dre & Vidal, is set to release a 7-song free EP next month. I'm definitely curious enough to see what he's bringing to the table. You can also catch Tristan's acting chops in the upcoming movie Red Tails, which is set to be released in January.
