Melanie Fiona channels a woman on the brink of a breakdown as she wonders what her boyfriend is up to on her newly released song "4AM" from her upcoming album, The MF Life. It's way past the midnight hour, and she's alone in his bed imagining that he's gallivanting on the town sipping bubbly with strippers. From the sound of it, this won't end well when he finally brings his raggedy ass home. Melanie is clearly influenced by the contempo R&B flavors of Drake, Frank Ocean, and The Weeknd on "4AM," which is great if those singers are who you're into. As for me, they ain't my type of hype and neither is this track. But I do love Ms. Fiona, and I think that if nothing else this song does show her versatility and that she's not afraid to experiment.
