Van Hunt Parts Ways With Label, Next CD Suddenly In Limbo

van_hunt_peacock.jpgVan Hunt fans will have to wait a little longer for this third CD to be released, because the talented Mr. Hunt is suddenly without a record label. Last Friday Paste received a note out of the blue that Blue Note Records would not be releasing Van's highly anticipated next disc, Popular. After digging a little deeper, the magazine got an official statement from Capitol Records, which is Hunt's former label and under the EMI umbrella alongside Blue Note (if you can't keep up, a flowchart is available upon request). The statement read, in part: "Van Hunt and EMI/Blue Note Records have mutually agreed to part ways."

Mutually agreed to part ways with his album scheduled to be released in one month? That reeks of shade. With all of the recent concerts that Van has turned out with his new material and press that he has been doing to promote the release, this news is quite unfortunate. There is no word as of yet about the fate of Popular, but hopefully the disc will somehow, someday be released.
